In my 20+ year legal career, I have dealt with over 100 different types of agreements in a wide variety of industries. I am trained to familiarize myself with new types of commercial conflicts and legal issues in a short time. As a judge, you need to deal with any case that comes into your docket and be able to render well-reasoned and fair awards.
Over the years, I have built specific expertise in the practice areas listed below.
I have worked as in-house counsel in the Dutch Energy Industry (mostly dealing with LNG and Gas) and have experience with LNG storage agreements, LNG break bulk agreements, expanding of gas and electricity infrastructure and joint operating agreements. As a judge & arbitrator I handled disputes about electricity distribution agreements, windmill farms, renewables technologies and grid infrastructure disputes.
As a judge, I handled many insurance cases about: general and professional liability insurances, D&O insurance, fraud insurance, cyber security insurance, machinery (liability) insurance, CAR insurance, property insurance and a variety of maritime insurances.
I was one of the few Dutch judges who dealt with shipping & trade disputes. I handled cases about: cargo disputes, charter parties, bills of lading, bunker oil disputes, collisions, logistic services and international and domestic sale of goods. I obtained a diploma in Transport Law from the Erasmus University Rotterdam and hold the CIArb Diploma International Maritime Arbitration. I act as arbitrator in LMAA arbitrations.
In my arbitrator practice, I have handled a number of post M&A disputes regarding earn-out payments, shareholder interests and compliance with contribution agreements. As in-house counsel I negotiated various Joint-Venture agreements.
As in-house counsel I have dealt with disputes about EPC agreements for energy infrastructure projects in the Netherlands. As arbitration attorney with FIDIC contract disputes for construction projects in the Middle East (including issues about notices, scope of work, design, delay, quantum). And as judge I rendered many judgments in residential, commercial and infrastructure disputes as well as in shipbuilding & repair disputes.
I am trained and experienced in interpreting contracts under a multitude of different laws. I am very familiar with franchising, hospitality, (pharma) distribution agreements, IT contracts, management services agreements and sale and purchase agreements.
